Yearly Pet Insurance review 2018

I often get asked about pet insurance. Who to go with, whether or not to have it etc. I wanted to share with you my experience with Trupanion.

I have Trupanion for all 3 of my dogs. 2 out of the 3 use their insurance on a monthly basis. All have been enrolled since the day we brought them home. So they have no pre existing conditions.

Casey our 10 year old Border Terrier began showing signs of what we thought was a reoccurring back issue on Jan 22nd. We did what we've been advised to do and rested her with Medacam for a few days. After 2 days it became obvious that she was getting worse not better which is not how it usually goes for her. We took her in to get her looked at. By this time our poor little girl could barely move she was in so much pain. We were given a few options and did end up at Canada West Specialty hospital for a CT scan. Her diagnosis was Diskospondylitis. A bacterial infection that usually only Great Danes and German Shepherds get ( Males predominantly). So to see it in a small terrier and a female was a shock! I am so thankful we have Trupanion to help our little Casey get back to her regular happy little self. Without Trupanion the diagnosis alone would've cost us $2865, plus treatment. But because we have Trupanion it only cost us $687!

I totaled up my GSD's vet bills for 2017. He is 2.5 years old with skin issues and allergies. His total for the year $7652.32. However once again Trupanion saved our butt! we only payed out $1638 of that ( they covered $6000 of his care). There is no way that putting money aside monthly EVER would've been enough to get him the care he needed this year.

I cannot recommend Trupanion enough!
